Double Matsuri among others

Last weekend, I had great time. Nakano had a Matsuri. I decided that I should eat stuff I've never eaten before instead of eating Matsuri staples like yakisoba, yakitori, okonomiyaki among others.

First one looked good, dango. Until they placed sauce it. The dango tasted like the balls in lugaw. The sauce was a mix of soy and something, so in the end, it tasted like a savoury item. Too bad, I wanted something sweet.

Unfortunately, I forgot the name of this. But this pastry, but I liked how they made it. It looks like an ordinary pancake-y type thing. But to my surprise, when I bit into it, there was a custard-y taste. Wow!

Third is my replacement for okonomiyaki. It's called Chijimi, a korean okonomiyaki. It is thinner and the ingredients are fewer. Probably, since I was used to the flavorful okonomiyaki, this sort of tasted bland. But, maybe the sibs Korean friends might know how to make something better? haha!

Another picture there is the fried item. It was made by the local high school. A plain croquette. But instead of using potato, they used pumpkin. I liked it!

Oh, why am I eating all of these things. Blame it on Kuitan! 喰いタン!The Japanese drama from a manga that I am currently watching.

The next day, there was a matsuri in Yotsuya. Perfect timing , since I was going to Church anyway. I went a bit early to check the stuff. In line with goal to eat food I haven't eaten, I first ate manju, a "regular" Japanese pastry. To my surprise, the atsuki or red bean filling was a lot! Tappuri! hehe! I enjoyed it!

I also went to the local bakery which made cute-shaped breads. I chose an orange shaped one. Inside was a mix of orange jelly and cream. Glee!

Lastly I also had 100 yen ice cream. Tasted like normal ice cream. Although I hadn't had ice cream since I left the Philippines, so glee!

Now that it is Autumn, I was able to buy the sweet potatoes you see in anime and Japanese movies roasted in hot rocks. Unfortunately, I went for the supermarket version. :( But it tasted great!!!! And perfect since it really warmed my tumtum! Also, this was eaten by Kuitan. haha!

Final pictures are fugu salad and sashimi. Yes, I ate there again. I finally met Rina, Khursten's friend who also lives in a great place in Kunitachi! I treated her, as a welcome gesture and thanks for bringing the goodies from Khursten, to something "exotic". (Btw, thanks to the History Majors for the chocolates and stuff!)

Finally, just today, I went to line up at Kinokuniya, not the bookstore or the supermarket. The kanji is 紀の国屋 but has the same reading. They had an autumn sale. everything was 50% off. And the bargain hunter in me decided to go to their main branch in Yaho station. There was a long line. I was decided to brave the line, since this is the only time I could get Japanese pastries cheap. Thankfully, I was only in line for 20 minutes. I bought one of each of their products, there are about 15. And the grand total....less than 1000 yen. WOW! My only regret is not taking pictures. Dang! Sugar...hadn't had it for a long time. haha!

I'll check Kuitan out. (9 episodes only, yes? ^^) "The story of a detective with a huge appetite." It sounds intriguing. ^_~
