A New Year

Another late post, so I apologize. Now, it is actually my fault. I'm a crammer, and because of my terrible experiences as a crammer, I make it a point not to make my students cram as well. However, the habit of cramming is very difficult to change. Take my current example. I received my applications for the entrance exams for the university 3 months ago. Did I work on it then? Nooooo! I had to wait until now to fix all of my stuff and it is giving me a bit of unnecessary stress. Haha!

Anyway, it isn't that unbearably cold hear. It's like turning the aircon in full blast and only wearing a sando and shorts type of feeling. So I wanted to eat something nice and warm. Instant noodles are okay, but I get hungry afterwards. I didn't want to go out and eat since that would entail spending. Then, I just remembered that it had been a loooooong time since I ate Champorado. So I trawled the websites for simple recipes. And found one. It was soooo simple I actually felt a bit stupid not knowing it. Rice, tablea and sugar to taste. I bought "instant" rice from 100 yen shop since I didn't want to buy a sack of rice since I don't usually cook my own rice. I didn't want to use condensed milk so I just used regular milk. Here are the results. I was quite nostalgic since I hadn't eaten champorado since I was a kid. The last one I ate was in a presentation by Senor Prado regarding the history of the Galleon trade. It was soupy, so I really didn't like it. I like my champorado a bit thick so I really cooked it down to a pseudo-pudding like state.

Ker Wee arrived from Singapore and Malaysia and bought me a Laksa kit which I made a couple of days later. The kit said that it was good for two - three servings. In my case, 2 servings only. Presentation is a bit different, but it tasted sooooo good. So good that I scoured the internet for laksa recipes and found an easy one in Japanese. Anyway here's my laksa:

On the same day, I met up with Khursten's friend Rina. We had dinner at Royal Host, a family restaurant. I couldn't resist eating the omurice. They did it in the same way as the J-drama Lunch Queen. Omu-rice with demiglace sauce. Haha! I really enjoyed it!

My last entry is on the curry place near the dorm. It is pretty small and cozy, yet I've never come to eat there until yesterday. I ordered their vegetable curry and was somewhat disappointed that it wasn't spicy enough. But I found their servings huge and the presentation interesting. For the rice, they have a mould shaped like a mountain. So when the plate is given to you it looks like a beautiful mountain scene, which curry as the landscape. Unfortunately, I was so hungry that I scarfed down a few bites before remembering to take a picture!
