Tricia and here friend Hyun-Joo came to Tokyo for "research." Tricia asked me earlier if I could accompany her to some Cosplay events and I gladly agreed since I am also interested in the stuff.Last week was also the university and the city's Matsuri, so from Shinjuku, where we met Tricia, we went back to Kunitachi to see the festivities. Unfortunately, the matsuri ended earlier. Waaay early, even for me. Say 4 pm! So we ended up having dinner at a Chinese restaurant at Fujimidori. The same restaurant where I have the super-spicy noodles. This time, I ordered safely, Black pepper ramen (almost like batchoy, since I put tons of black pepper in mine) and gyoza.
The next day, it was off to Akihabara for a cosplay event. From the beginning, it started out interesting, since Tricia and I were at different exits, waiting for each other for an hour. But due to an "untoward incident" Tricia went to my exit and we found each other.
The cosplay event was fun, unfortunately, I was too chicken to take pictures. :( There are rules among cosplayers and taking pictures without the player's permission is a no-no. Most of the photographers were men, and guess who they were taking pictures of? maid and school-girl cosplayers. So my dinky-cellphone camera seems like an insult to them. Although there was a group who cosplayed as the captains of Bleach, which I wanted a picture of. Darn!
After the event, since Tricia was with me, we went to not one, but two maid cafes. Mustering up the courage, we first ate at a "maid deli." There were girl customers as well, plus the person on the bar/register was a guy. The food was good, unfortunately the service was slow. Plus, they made a mistake with my order. But the overall experience was interesting. Unfortunately, no pictures could be taken inside the deli! Dang! Next, we went to another maid cafe, but the theme for this one was cats = neko-maids. We had dessert. I chose a cute simple dessert, bread with ice cream and a chocolate sauce message. It was soooo nice, Khursten would've loved it! Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed as well. ding dang! As a compromise I just have a picture of the facade of the maid deli. What I noticed is that it isn't really anything special, unless you go for the "extras" which charge a lot. The deli advertised a game with the maids for 500 yen, but I wasn't sure about the mechanics, so didn't try it. Also, the keigo (polite language) didn't affect me one bit. Being called --sama is weird.
Last two pictures includes a shabu-shabu dinner with Hanna, Tricia and Hyun-joo and macapuno candy from Mia who is also currently visiting Japan. I really appreciated the macapuno candy since it tasted like home (Note to the family: Don't buy me macapuno candy. Honestly, it is too sweet, but to have one or two, or three is enough). I was soo happy about this.
On another funny note, one of the kids in the grade school I work for developed a case of dandruff. And it is soo funny how the other kids treated it. They wouldn't even touch his hair. At first I though it was lice since they were somewhat grossed out. After a careful look, it was just dandruff. The kids took their notebooks and unsuccessfully whacked the dandruff off thinking it was a living thing! haha! (it's mean I know).

Your maid cafe adventure was interesting. At least now you can say you have been not only to one, but two. ^_^
I was going to buy you macapuno candy until I read the "note to family". LOL =P
How about dried mangoes?
Hey, bro --
I'm glad you've found interesting adventure in Japan. ^_^
The food looks really interesting. Our recent addiction here in Iloilo is Bibimbap and Bulgogi. (And cucumber kimchi.)

It's quite interesting to see your list of manga, makes me want to try randomly putting these in my shipping. TAT;; How is Coffee Dream コーヒーどりーむ like? Sounds like a good manga. :3
I'm having a shoujo fix now. minus the dramatic emo-ness. But cooking mangas are always great... How about ナルトや?
