A Treat for myself and Fruits!

Yesterday lunch my Indian classmate Puranamita-san was soo homesick that she craved Indian food. Tanaka-sensei was kind enough to recommend two Indian restaurants and let us go early so that we could eat there!

The funny thing was that we got lost and ended up in a different Indian restaurant. Anyway we decided to eat there because it was late. The Restaurant was called Shish Mahal. They had a "Viking Lunch" which is Buffet style for the Japanese for Y980. Only Baku-san, Dorufu-san and Angeru-san took advantage of this. The rest of the class decided to eat a set lunch for Y850. My lunch consisted of vegetable curry (hot) [could've chosen chicken, beef, mutton, etc. but I try to alleviate my ramen dinners with vegetables], naan (2 BIG pieces, yum yum yum), a salad of shredded cabbage and corn with a dressing, a drink (I got oolong tea) and a dessert (tasted like linugaw that is made into a flan).

Pranamita-san acted as our translator to the owners because she could speak Hindi even if she is from Assam (the tea). Tanaka-sensei told us that this place gives Y100 discount for students. So my set meal only costed Y750. Still a bit expensive than the meals I've eaten but I should enjoy myself a bit. hehe. I REALLY loved the naan!

Today, 5 of us decided to take Furora-san's recommendation of a Ramen stall. However, when we arrived, the stall was having yasumi (break) so we had to find another place. We ended up in the restaurant I ate with Hanna-sempai and her Korean friend. I (on a health-kick daw) ordered the stir-fried vegetables with pork set. The set had rice, miso soup, pickled vegetables, another bowl of vegetables and salad. It was about Y650. Not bad. I enjoyed it although the pork was only two pieces. I didn't mind anyway.

After class, I decided to go to the bakery and got myself expensive Japanese baked bread. I got the brown bread. I have been eating white bread for two weeks and the price for 8 slices ranges from Y100 - Y200. The brown bread I got was big. I think it was about 15-20 slices for Y368. The downside of the bread I bought was that it had a swirl filling inside. Oh well. I should have read the labels better. The next time I'll try a different one.

A floormate in the dorm is Heirin-san (Haileen?) who is a vegetarian. We talked fruits here in Japan and told her I managed to score a good deal at Seiyu. 5 bananas for Y97 (yes, this is a good deal already). But I felt guilty about it. She actually vented her frustration at the fact that fruits are expensive. She got her bananas for Y150. She also bought A kiwi fruit (yes, just 1 kiwi fruit) for Y80 - Y100. I got guilty that my dinners were always instant ramen, so today I bought fruit again. Bananas at a fruit stand. Bananas from the Philippines. How ironic that I had to pay Y100 for 4 pieces. Later on I went to Saeki and found out that they were selling 5 pieces for Y100. Argh!. Anyway...que sera sera.

Coincidentally, my sister, Katya, e-mailed me asking about fruit prices here. How serendipituous! Haha!
